20. March 2010: Coffee Bar Matcafe Misteln

| March 21, 2010 | 2 Comments

The coffee bar Matcafe Misteln is situated in the area of Gamla stan and easily reachable from the metro station Gamla stan with a little footwalk. Furthermore, it’s quite close to the Nobel museum and the royal palace.

The entrace is a bit difficult to find as it is located in a tiny side street going away from the place where the nobel museum is situated where you have to go down through a little door underground.

Once you managed to get down the tiny steps you are basically already in the restaurant which is divided in two sides whereas you find on each side a small room with approximately ten seats. The place is really old-fashioned but totally cozy. It’s all made of stone and you feel like in a middle-aged cellar.

It takes a while till the waitress arrives at your table serving you with the menu. The choice you’re offered is not really huge but it’s a nice selection of soups and sandwiches.

As a main dish I had a Goulash Soup with a vegetable sandwich with cheese. The sandwich wasn’t really too tasty (eatable for sure, but that’s just about it) whereas the soup was quite good!

For desert I had a cheese cake which was quite tasty as well. But actually, for the coffee order, the waitress messed up as my friend was served a regular filter coffee instead of the espresso ordered. Furthermore, upon asking if we want milk to our coffees (which we wanted) we waited for ages and in the end, we still didn’t get any milk at all. This was definitely a bit disappointing.

At least, it must be said, the waitresses were friendly the whole time

The prices for the different dishes are somehow appropriate but not really cheap. Looking at the part of the city the restaurant is located in it’s okay.

The restaurant is definitely worth a visit, but much more because of the atmosphere, the location itself than because of food or service. Maybe just go there for a coffee or something alike – worth a visit for sure!

Update 8th of July 2010: Apparently, the place I’ve visited is the coffee bar only, and not the restaurant itself which is supposedly offering great food! Thanks for the hints, Lena.
