14. June 2013: Restaurant Widder
The “Midsommar” is a traditional Swedish event which is celebrated every year with the Swedish ambassador in Zurich. And their event is absolutely worth visiting – it starts with a nice aperitivo outside of the Widder restaurant and quite some champagne. But once in the dining area you have the possibility to enjoy a great buffet with a lot of Swedish specialties starting with a nice selection of fresh smoked fish (gravad lax med dill-senapssås, rökt lax, ) …
… going to somehow pickled fishes (rökt ål med krydd majonnäs, forell med pepparrotssås, inlagd sill, kräftor med dill, laxsallad)…
… followed by a very nice and absolutely tasty crab salad (räksallad). That was only the starters round though.
Next was – obviously – the main course where pretty normal specialties like potatoes (färsk potatis med dill) and salmon (inkokt lax med remouladsås) were offered but not only that!
Veal filet (kalvkött i dillsås) as well as Swedish hoppelpoppel (pytt i panna) were offered – the veal was already quite delicious but of course the typical Swedish dish …
… “köttbullar” which most of you probably know from IKEA had to be tried (well, better than IKEA, no question).
What really blew my mind was the ren dear saddle (rensadel med vinbärsås) – absolutely amazing and great meat! If you have the chance to try it, do so! It is absolutely delicious!
Of course, there were a lot of sweets offered after the main course like “kanelbullar” …
… chocolates …
… “smulpaj med rabarber” …
… and many …
… many more!
Luckily for me, the also had a nice selection of cheeses which was the perfect finish for my evening! Overall, the dishes were of great quality and definitely something I can recommend everyone who is interested in getting to know another kind of kitchen than what you are usually used to.
The room was nicely decorated and a lot of effort has been done in order to make the decoration as beautiful as it was. But not only that, with a total price of CHF 130.00 (incl. champagne, white and red whine, and a Swedish schnapps which was served between each course) it is absolutely reasonable. Last but not least, I have to mention the great and dedicated service which made the whole evening even more pleasant than it already was!
