7. July 2013: Restaurant Accademia del Gusto

While it was quite a hot day it got immediately better – the tasty white wine served combined with a very refreshing “cold melon mint soup” which immediately cooled you down. The “burrata with sprouts” was obviously not as refresing but accordingly taste-intense!

The prosciutto wrapped around the grissini provided the perfect entrée for the real menu – a perfect combination of saltiness and the balancing effect of the dow.

The actual lunch started with a “green pea cream soup with sea bass filet”. The soup was more of a purée and was creamy and intensively tasted like peas. The sea bass was juicy and soft and the decoration with sprouts and small leaves fit perfectly.

The second starter “Cannellone ‘Piccoli’ au gratin with fried zucchini blossom” was even tastier. The cannellone had a great stuffing, was cooked perfectly and provided a great combination of tastes with the fried basil leaves and the zucchini blossom.

The “duo of veal filet medaillon and grilled poussin, roulade of white asparagus and carrot with mashed potato” was good. The meat was fine and so was the rest  but somehow it was also not really that overwhelming. I mean, yeah, the meat was tasty but the “roulade of white asparagus and carrot” was e.g. pretty much only a piece of white asparagus wrapped in a slice of carrot. Of course, it looked artsy but the taste effect was pretty much non-existent.

But then again, the kitchen did a great job on the dessert: “mousse au chocolate filled with caramel and passion fruit gelée, served with a raspberry sorbet and a sugerstick with leaf gold”. The mousse au chocolate refined with the passion fruit gelée was truly delicious. The sugarstick with the leaf gold was a nice gimmick but had definitely no taste-effect.

The “friandises” served after were also quite refined and tasty …

… but the “Formaggi Misti” (CHF 13.00) while refined in presentation were a bit meager in selection. Still, a good ending to a nice lunch experience.

Besides the dishes – which were not cheap but definitely fair in price – the beverages were mostly fine too. The “Roero Arneis, Vigna Tabaria, 2011” (Piemonte, 0,75L) accounted for CHF 54.00 and was a good and refreshing white wine and the red wine “Jachello, Russo & Longo, 2010” (Calabria, 0,75L, CHF 70.00) had a nice heaviness but was also nicely light so it fit well with the food. For the cheese, I went for the “Amarone Classico, L’Anima di Vergani, 2008” (Veneto, 0,75L, CHF 90.00) is definitely way overpriced – and while Grappa from Berta (e.g. Tre Soli Tre, CHF 22.00 for 2cl) is always expensive, this one is definitely quite a stretch!

The service on the other hand is friendly, quick, supportive and conducts a good job in a very nice atmosphere! Overall, I can recommend the Restaurant Accademia del Gusto but one has to be aware that eating here is definitely nothing on the very cheap side when it comes to the beverages!
