12. October 2013: Restaurace La Bodeguita del Medio
I agree that it is a bit uncommon to go to a Cuban bar while in Prague but then again, the La Bodeguita del Medio is a place a friend used to go to quite often so we gave it a try. Being slightly hungry again, I went for the “sopa picante de frijoles negros con crema agria” (69 CZK, approx. CHF 3.45) which was actually quite tasty but also quite spicy. The soup was thick and aromatic.
The Mojito (169 CZK, approx. CHF 8.45) is quite strong and actually also quite tasty. The place itself is nicely designed but you cannot be sensitive when it comes to smoke as it is a Cuban bar, the layer of cigar (and cigarette) smoke is quite thick. The prices for the dish and the soft drinks are absolutely fair (e.g. water / coke, CZK 55, approx. CHF 2.75) but astonishingly steep for the mojito.
Overall, if you want to sit somewhere inside and enjoy a quite good mojito and eventually smoke, the Restaurace La Bodeguite del Medio is a good place to go – and the food is not that bad either. The service does a good job, is attentive and quick, also friendly. And the prices are fair too. Not worth the travel but worth visiting when you are close by anyways.
