12. October 2013: James Dean Bar
The “Turkey Burger (ground grilled turkey, bacon, cheddar, tomato, onion, lettuce, herb mayo, 200gr)” (195 CZK, approx. CHF 9.75) is quite fine. The meat is juicy, taste-wise the bacon and cheddar do their job and the bun is not stroppy as you often find it with burgers.
What is better though and why you should go to the James Dean Bar is the drinks. The “Planter’s Punch (Myer’s Rum, Bacardi Superior, Grenadine, Maracuja, Orange and Pineapple Juice)” (CZK 145, approx. CHF 7.25) is tasty but it definitely does not taste like a Planter’s Punch usually does.
Given that I wanted to try something new, I went for a “Litchi Colada (Bacardi Superior, Litchi Liqueur, Coconut Syrup, Pineapple Juice, Cream)” (CZK 135, approx. CHF 6.75) which tasted interesting. The litchi was overwhelming, the cream did its part – overall it really was like a Pina Colada with the taste of litchi. Not sure if I’d try it again.
The place is pretty cool as it is really like an American diner in the 70ies – the only thing missing is that the waitress skates while serving (but I guess there’d be too many accidents). Apparently, there is also quite a good club located in the basement (but as it was during the afternoon I did not have the chance to try that one). All in all, the James Dean Bar is a good place to chill and enjoy a couple of drinks, especially when the weather is bad.
