1. November 2013: Restaurant Aurelius
The “swordfish carpaccio with black truffles from Umbria” (EUR 16.90, respectively EUR 11.83) would actually have been quite tasty if it would not have been served right from the freezer. The swordfish was still frozen in parts which is a) not the way to serve a dish and b) takes away the taste. So the starter was not really persuading me.
The main dish on the other hand, a “roasted tuna filet in a pepper crust with grilled vegetables and rosmary potatoes” (EUR 23.90, respectively EUR 16.93) was great though. The tuna was pink inside, the pepper crust was thick and aromatic and overall the dish was very tasty. Definitely better than the starter.
For dessert, I went for the “Creme caramel, nicely garnished” (EUR 7.90, respectively EUR 5.53) which was not really a cream for me but more a jelly. So it did not really fulfil my expectations (as I expected something totally different). To be fair though, at least the dessert was tasty.
Overall, the dishes were good, of good taste, fine quality but frozen food is not really what you expect for that price level (I mean, at least defrost ist properly!). Besides that, I must say the place is nice as it welcomes you with bread and olives (for which they charge you EUR 2.90, respectively EUR 2.03) which definitely are tasty. The service is very friendly and also competent, no complain from that side.
The place itself is actually quite nice – modern and aerial design, spacious and welcoming.
The prices are definitely upper class but that does not apply to the beverages (e.g. San Pellegrino, 0,75L, EUR 6.00, respectively EUR 4.20). I am not 100% sure if I can recommend the Restaurant Aurelius. I mean, the main course was great, the food generally was good but frozen starters are a no go and the cream was definitely no cream. Then again the service was good, the place is nice and the prices are steep (which can easily be mitigated by booking a table via Delinski.at and saving 30% on the bill. I guess, you gotta decide for yourself.
