22. November 2013: Restaurant @ Freiämter Hof
The “Monte Ziego goat cheese marinated with honey and sesame on rocket salad” (EUR 8.40) already looked appealing as it was nicely prepared but when I tried it I was not disappointed. The goat cheese is fresh and rich, the marinade with honey and sesame provided it with the necessary sweetness and the rocket salad was responsible for the bitterness. All in all, a very balanced meal to start a dinner.
As a main course I had “Schnitzel, large like a barn door (Schiereschnitzel”) which was accompanied by …
… “French fries” …
… and a “bowl of salad” (all together, EUR 12.50). The salad was good but with industrially made sauce, the French fries were nicely crispy and not oily. The schnitzel itself was fine too – not overly tasty but quite okay overall. Although it did not look too big I must admit that in the end the Schnitzel was actually quite large.
The prices are very moderate, I must admit. The same applies for the beverages (0,7L water, EUR 3.10; 0,5L water, EUR 2.40). The bread and spread which are served in the beginning are a nice gesture but the spread was somehow not really tasting like much and the first basket of bread was definitely old and not really fresh anymore.
The waitress is also the restaurant / hotel owner – she’s friendly, dedicated, helpful, definitely great service. And just keeps asking if everything is fine in a very pleasant way. The place itself is nice, it is a simple but nice restaurant in the countryside. If you are around that area, it is definitely worth a visit.
