8. December 2013: Restaurant Frank’s

| December 21, 2013 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Frank’s was recommended to me a couple of times and therefore my expectations were respectively high – and to be honest, they were not even remotely fulfilled. The “Beefsteak Tartare ‘Emiglia’, 150gr beef feilt from the States, seasoned to taste with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, capers and spring onions, served with toast, butter and fresh chili” (EUR 19.50) was definitely not of the quality you would want it to be. The meat was of rather average quality and not really that appealing.

Frankly, the main dish was not all bad – I had a “filet steak (250gr)” (EUR 30.50) and I must say it was nicely grilled and the quality of the meat was overall okay. It just had way too many nerves so it was a bit annoying and detoriated the meat quality obviously.

As a sidedish I had “Fries & Rings” (mixture of onion rings and French fries)” (EUR 4.90) which were actually quite good. The French fries had a good taste but were too greasy. The onions rings were very fried but generally fine.

I thought I might as well try a special sauce for the steak and went for the “tomato thyme sauce” (EUR 2.20) which was definitely nothing special, actually even a disappointment. But it matched somehow the whole dinner – the food was just mediocre. And given the prices, it was definitely not worth eating at Frank’s. At least the beer is moderately priced – 0,5L Löwenbräu account for EUR 3.90.

Besides that, the quality of the waiters varies highly – while the first was somehow rude, unfriendly and not really knowing what good service means, the second did a good job but lacked in small things like taking my empty plate while my company was still eating. The place itself is quite fine – nothing special but the back of it looks like catacombs which makes it quite nice.

It is not easy to meet high expectations but they were not even remotely fulfilled – so, frankly, Frank’s is no place I will go again – not recommended!
