15. February 2014: Restaurant Miracle
Lately, when going out for dinner in Zurich I used TripAdvisor as a reliable source for good food and, therefore, I used it again and decided to pay the restaurant ranked #18 (out of 1’192 restaurant in Zurich) a visit. As a starter to share I went for a “Bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, olive oil, basil and garlic)” (CHF 9.50) which was a fine start.
The “pulpo salad with green asparagus” (CHF 19.50) was refreshing and rich. The lightness of the salad in combination with the lemon and the soft consistency of the pulpo without being chewy was just ideal.
The accompanying “rosemary focciacia” was good but definitely a bit to dry for my personal gusto. Still, a nice complementary element for the salad.
As a main I had the “home-made pasta with beef filet stripes, cherry tomatoes and green asparagus” (CHF 28.50) – and while the pasta itself was nice and rich the whole dish all together did just not finish perfectly. While absolutely tasty overall, there was definitely something missing to make it a perfect dish.
The place itself is kind of dark but very appealing, typical Italian in a dark tone. The waiter was friendly but somehow a bit slow and did not speak any Italian which was a bit surprising and I would not have expected of the apparently best Italian restaurant in Zurich (according to TripAdvisor). The prices for the dishes are very fair, I must admit, and the same applies to the beverages. A bottle of water (0,5L) accounts for CHF 5.80, 1 glas (1DL) of Brancaia, Tre, 2011 for CHF 7.00 and a double espresso for CHF 6.20.
To sum it up, the Restaurant Miracle is overall worth a visit as the food is good, the place is atmospheric (but could be styled up a bit) and the service is okay – and frankly, for the price you pay it is absolutely fine. I would probably still not rate it among the 20 best restaurants although the price performance ratio is outstanding for Zurich.
