26. March 2014: Restaurant Hermanseck

| April 7, 2014 | 0 Comments

I have heard about the Restaurant Hermanseck a couple of times and I was curious about what was going to expect me. The place itself is simply furnished, the spaces between the tables are large so you have some privacy and the service is attentive – at least after the initial couple of minutes when we were finally noticed. The evening started with a surprise from the kitchen – a “broccoli cream soup”. The soup was a nice start and had a strong but nice broccoli taste.

As a starter I went for the “beef tatare prepared according to the old Herman with sundried tomatoes” (CHF 23.00) which did not only look tasty but was also great in quality and taste. The possibility to combine the meat with chili, sprouts, capers, sundried tomatoes and olives provided a great taste experience …

… and the crispy bread with olive spread which was served to it did its trick too. The combination was rather unique – or at least unusual to me – and made it a great dish.

As a main course, I went for the “Ravioli filled with Cicorino Rosso and cream cheese, tossed in butter, with colourful cherry tomatoes and herbs” (CHF 28.50). The stuffing of the ravioli was aromatic and they were only slightly beyond al dente but definitely a good, sound dish.

When the waitress asked us if we wanted a dessert the menu was served in a special way by pressing a seal on the paper tablecloth …

… and when I had chosen the dessert and ordered it, yet another seal was pushed onto the tablecloth stating “booked”.

So, I went for the “Cranberry sourcherry mousse” (CHF 12.50) which was absolutely delicious – smooth, creamy and flavourful – the perfect ending to the dinner. The dishes are rich, the prices are very fair and the place is comfortable. The beverages are also fair in price: 1dl Heida (Sauvignon Blanc), CHF 8.00; double espresso, CHF 6.00; Valser, 0,5L, CHF 6.00 and a bottle of Primissimo (CHF 66.50).

To sum up my experience at the Restaurant Hermanseck, the restaurant is a nice place, the dishes are really good, the service is fine, and the prices are absolutely fair.
