3. April 2014: Restaurant Mesa

| April 23, 2014 | 0 Comments

My expectations were high as I have heard and read quite a lot about the Restaurant Mesa upfront and I must admit that they were met. When entering the restaurant the place is welcoming you and at the same time you see that there is absolutely enough space between the single tables so you have your privacy and it is the perfect place for a business lunch.

When you are seated you are served “home made grissini” …

… and salt with olive oil.

As a started I chosen a “tuna tartar with grapefruit, sour cream and fennel” (CHF 21.00) which was small and cute but also very rich in taste and definitely an interesting combination with the grapefruit. A light and lovely starter for lunch.

The main course was a “halibut with leguminous plants, root vegetables and croûtons” (CHF 35.00) which was delicious. The plants and vegetables made for a marvelous combination of tastes and consistencies and the halibut was soft and tender but had not a single hint of fishy taste.

Finally, for dessert I had the “small cheese selection” (CHF 18.00) which was picked by the cheese waitress to make sure a nice selection of different tastes and consistencies was on the plate and she succeeded in doing so! The cheeses were rich, of very strong flavour (at least some) and last but not least also quite generously put on the plate.

As usually it is the case in great restaurants it was also the case in the Restaurant Mesa – some friandises were served and they were absolutely delicious!

As mentioned before, the interior is aboslutely nice and spacious – indeed a very lovely place. And even more importantly, the place is matched by the quality of the service. They are attentive, friendly, perfectly orchestrated – truly great service.

To sum it up, yes, I can absolutely recommend the Restaurant Mesa for lunch – as the food is great, the service is exquisite and the place is absolutely lovely. Only the prices are quite obviously not the lowest imaginable but then on the other hand what do you expect of a restaurant with 17 Gault Millau points.
