10. June 2014: Restaurant Il Pantheon

The “Insalata Caprese” (CHF 15.90) is served with good and smooth mozzarella which is pretty aromatic. The tomatoes were okay but lacked a bit in taste.

I went for the weekly special – “smoothly simmered roastbeef” (CHF 31.50) which was generally speaking fine. But somehow it was not the best piece of meat they had picked for the dish.

Even the “home-made tartar sauce” which was served with the roastbeef was a bit of disappointment. While not bad at its core it tasted way too much like mayonnaise. I am well-aware that the typical restaurant tartar sauce has a strong mayonnaise basis but this was just a bit too overwhelming.

At least the French fries which came with it were nicely crispy and not sloppy like they often are. Actually, on an overall basis, they were quite fine. The prices are also rather fair – and the same applies for the water (San Pellegrino, 0,5L, CHF 6.80) but not so much for the double espresso for which they charge a solid CHF 8.00!

The waiter on the other hand is friendly and incredibly quick. After we took our seats we were asked what we wanted to drink within seconds – and the beverages also arrived within two minutes. This was very pleasant – especially due to the fact that we were sitting outside and it was approx. 35°C. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice in general – somehow looking like a family restaurant it is a nice more or less typical Italian restaurant.

Overall, the Restaurant Il Pantheon is recommendable for a quick, fair lunch – if you are looking for anything beyond that, I would recommend you to go somewhere else.
