7. May 2010: Restaurant Zur Markthalle
The Restaurant Zur Markthalle is located very close to the city center of Zofingen (Thutplatz) and can be reached easily by foot. Zofingen can either be accessed (in general) by car or by train.
The Restaurant Zur Markthalle looks nice from the outside because as the name says in German, it’s a former market hall. So you see the arches from the outside already and that’s somewhat nice. The interior is – on the other hand – not too appealing. It’s a classical old Swiss restaurant with its usual suspects inside – regular guests.
The service is quite okay because they are helpful and serve you with a laughter on their lips although we – for sure – were not the most liked guests at the time.
The menu is quite big so it’s not that easy to make a choice. But it offers a decent variety of different dishes – what is a bit a pity though is the lack of meat offered there.
I enjoyed Gnocchi with Gorgonzola which were astonishingly good for being made in Switzerland – especially that you were actually able to taste the Gorgonzola which is usually not the case.
The restaurant Zur Markthalle is somewhat good to just eat something and get in touch with the local inhabitants. What is really recommendable though when the weather is good is the balcony upstairs – perfect for sitting outside, enjoying a glass of wine (or a beer of course).
The prices for the drinks are absolutely okay, the prices for the food are – especially if you eat something Italian – quite high compared to their origin.
