8. July 2014: Restaurant Brasserie Federal

| July 31, 2014 | 0 Comments

The “Federal salad in a bowl – with bread crumbs, bacon, champignons and radish” (CHF 11.20) is a very sound starter as the ingredients which are present in the salad are actually quite a lot of different ones and at the same times the salad is quite tasty – if it was not for the industrially produced salad sauce.

As a main course, I went for “veal’s head Vinaigrette cooked in its own broth served with a herbs vinaigrette and parsley potatoes” (CHF 19.80). I have never head veal’s head before and frankly speaking, I know why. It might be a delicacy for some people but it is definitely not my cup of tea. The veal’s head does not really look that great when it’s served and, therefore, I was expecting quite a taste disappointment but as a matter of fact in taste the whole thing is not even that bad. Bluntly speaking though, the consistency is very special as it is somehow soft, gluey which made me stop after half the plate. Still, worth a try and definitely an experience – not one to repeat but an experience.

The place lacks in atmosphere, or, in other words, has the charme of a main station (as the restaurant is located in the main station). So you definitely don’t have to go here for the surroundings but it is perfect for a quick lunch in the centre of Zurich. The waiter is friendly and swift – and the prices are absolutely fair (e.g. water, 0,5L, CHF 4.60). Overall, the Restaurant Brasserie Federal is the perfect place for a quick lunch in the centre of Zurich – and if you’re daring you should try the veal’s head, else, definitely not!
