12. July 2014: Carpe Diem Beach Stipanska

| August 5, 2014 | 0 Comments

You can reach Carpe Diem Beach Stipanska by boat from Hvar – the trip takes about 10 minutes and costs 20 KRN. Once you arrive it feels like you really reached a place where everything is about the good life. But the good life obviously comes with a price – if you want to have a sunbed, you have to pay 70 KRN (approx. CHF 11.15) but at least you get it for the whole day and it is pretty comfortable and you get a nice view.

There is a little downside though when you are getting hungry you have to move as you are not allowed to eat on the sunbeds but you have to move to the restaurant where you lay down in the VIP area as if you are on a sunbed (so I really did not understand why it had to be this way).

I went for the “Tuna Tartare (fresh raw tuna in lemon herb marinade topped with fresh arugula)” (98 KRN, approx. CHF 15.60) which was good in taste but the toast was soaking in oil which is definitely nothing pleasant.

While it looked promising, my main course, the “Adriatic Calamari (grilled Adriatic calamari with cherry tomatoes and grean peas cream)” (91 KRN, approx. CHF 14.50) was quite a disappointment. My calamari were cold and chewy so I barely ate any of it but in all fairness the green peas cream was absolutely delicious.

What was truly great was the service, especially at the sunbeds. Our waiters were Franka and Nikolai and they did a great job. In the very beginning we had to wait quite a bit until we were first served but once they had our attention, the service was flawless. With regards to the drinks the prices are absolutely okay but if you sell a “Mango Mojito” (59 KRN, approx. CHF 9.40) then it should contian some mango and not peaches. Besides that, the prices are absolutely fair (0,75L water, 35 KRN, approx. CHF 5.60; olives 15 KRN, approx. CHF 2.40). After 5pm the DJ starts playing creating the perfect atmosphere.

So, overall the Carpe Diem Beach Stipanska is the perfect place to chill out, to enjoy the sun, get a couple of drinks and relax. If you are looking for outstanding food, then it is not the right place to go to. Else, absolutely perfect to spend a Saturday afternoon!
