20. July 2014: Restaurant Temakinho
The Temakinho is a sister restaurant of the London-based sushisamba and was recommended to me by a London friend, so I thought I give it a try while in Milan. Starting with “Cebiche Mixto (white fish, salmon, lobster, shrimp and octopus all marinated with lime, extra virgin olive oil, salt, black pepper, coriander, pepper, red onion, fresh ginger and South American chili pepper, served with toasted corn)” (EUR 13.00) I was not entirely persuaded. The octopus was a bit too chewy for my personal taste.
Next I tried the “Atum Caju (tuna, flying fish roe, chives, mango, porcini mushrooms, parsley, cashew nuts, spicy sauce and sweet & sour sauce)” (EUR 8.00) which had a very distinct taste I did not like at first – but once I had a couple of bites it actually turned out to be quite aromatic and tasty.
The “Kani California (premium surimi, tartar, cucumber, avocado, mayonnaise, flying fish roe)” (EUR 6.00) was rather simple but at the same time also tasty – although the sauce really gave it the extra taste boost making it very enjoyable.
My absolute favourite that day was “Hot Salmão com Camarão (salmon, chives, cream chesse, breaded prawns, sweet & sour sauce)” (EUR 10.50) which was mainly salmon with breaded prawns – and in combination a truly yummy experience. If you are to eat at Temakinho you should definitely try the Hot Salmão com Camarão.
Last was the “Lagosta (Blue lobster, rocket, flying fish roe and spicy mayonnaise)” (EUR 15.00) which was definitely not so much my course. Somehow the lobster did not taste like too much, respectively, it just somehow lacked intensity. The whole experience was a bit of a disappointment – I mean the dishes were definitely tasty, no question with regards to that but compared to sushisamba it just really lacked innovativeness – again, definitely a question of expectation.
Besides that, the place is actually quite nice as it is absolutely simple, not posh at all, the service is friendly and helpful and provides you with your orders within a couple of minutes – and the prices are generally speaking fair which also applies to the beverages (espresso, EUR 1.50) and the cover charge (EUR 1.50).
Overall, I am not entirely sure what to say about the Temakinho – the place is truly cute and nice, the service is good, the prices are fair, and the food is also good – just not what I expected in innovativeness and taste explosion.
