22. July 2014: Restaurant Pizzeria Rosso
You will never walk randomly by the Pizzeria Rosso as it is located in the backyard of some buildings and is not even labelled as a restaurant from the outside (or at least I did not see anything with regards to that). The place is atmospheric but definitely a bit alternative – you have to get your tap water yourself from the water plug and the waiter looks more like a tattooed and pierced street guy than a waiter but he is kind of friendly.
I went for the “Burrata (Apulian cream cheese on datterini tomatoes, basil, and red onions)” (CHF 17.00) which was quite fine as the tomatoes were aromatic and the burrata had an intense taste and a great consistency.
As a main course I went for the “Pizza Bresaola (con bresaola, mozzarella di bufala, parmeggiano e rucola)” (CHF 28.00). The pizza had a nice dough which was thin and cripsy, the toppings were fine but rather curmudgeonly applied – and CHF 28.00 for these toppings is quite a lot. But at least it was tasty.
Overall, the Pizzeria Rosso is a nice place if you want to eat Italian dishes in a nice but alternative atmosphere – just be aware that the waiter is not born to be a waiter but is a guy doing a job and that you have to pay CHF 28.00 for a pizza which is definitely tasty – but lacks a bit in generosity when it comes to the application of toppings.
