24. July 2014: Restaurant Drei Stuben

| August 21, 2014 | 0 Comments

Before even having received the menu to pick what to eat we were surprised with a little something from the kitchen: “confit whitefish, wasabi, asparagus and pea soup”. The whitefish in combination with the asparagus and the wasabi was a smooth start into the evening – the pea soup neutralized the taste buds in order to prepare them for the evening.

I started with “beef tatar, foie gras, black truffles” (CHF 26.00) – which was definitely a very interesting combination of very strong flavours. The beef tatar was aromatic, the foie gras on the side was definitely nice but the black truffles were somehow a bit superfluous as they did not add to much to the taste of the dish.

The next course were “home-made wisent ravioli with forrest mushrooms and sage” (CHF 22.00) which was absolutely great. The ravioli were of perfect consistency, the stuffing of bison meat delicious and the added forrest mushrooms just rounded up the dish perfectly in combination with the sage.

As a main dish, I had the “veal chop from Simmental (350gr) with polenta slices and dried fruit carpaccio, baby carrot and dandelion” (CHF 59.00). The veal chop was absolutely tender and truly delicious – especially in combination with the dried fruit carpaccio I must admit this is what I call a felicitous main course.

The final course was the “”Jumi selection” of cheeses with apple-fig-mustard, honey, and plum mustard” (CHF 22.00) and while the cheese was just very good, the mustards were actually incredibly good. Overall, definitely the perfect closing of the evening.

The restaurant has a little garden where you can enjoy your dinner – sitting outside under the trees makes it a truly nice place. Besides everything, it is really atmospheric – especially as it gets darker in the evening. The service is friendly, quite quick and helpful at all times. Besides the good selection of dishes, there is also a rather nice offering of wines – for starters a bottle of the Chablis Ardillières (CHF 61.00) was a matching pairing. The “Hacienda Monasteria” (CHF 85.00) is a great wine for the main courses and the cheese.

Even the bread which you are served in the very beginning is of intense and fresh taste. Overall, the Restaurant Drei Stuben is a great place – lovely atmosphere, good service, tasty dishes but a bit pricey I must admit (e.g. a bottle of water, CHF 10.50). Still, absolutely worth a visit if you are into good food.
