5. August 2014: Restaurant Isakaya
It is approximately 3 years ago since I have last been to the Restaurant Isakaya – and back then, I remember, I was not really takan aback. However, every place deserves a second chance, especially if it managed to survive for more than 3 years in Zurich, so I gave it another try.
As lunch menus have the charm of mostly having a starter and a main course, I decided to get kicked off with “Misoshiru” which was a regular starter soup – good but nothing special really.
The main course on the other hand, the “Sashimi Bento (3 pieces of tuna, 3 pieces of king fish, 3 pieces of salmon, ohitashi, tamago and rice)” (CHF 34.50) was quite fine. The sashimi was of good quality, and the rest was fine as well. Definitely a sound and fair dish – nothing which blows your mind but definitely okay.
Besides the dishes, the place is rather simply decorated but somehow appealing, the waitress is extremely friendly but somehow does not speak proper German – which is complicating the order process a bit. The traditional “Ocha cold” (CHF 4.80) was tasty and aromatic – and fair in price. Overall, the Restaurant Isakaya is okay for a quick lunch – good fish, nothing special though.
