25. August 2014: Restaurant Razzia

| September 29, 2014 | 0 Comments

The Razzia is a rather new place in Zurich why I obviously had to give it a try. Starting with “Rino’s Grand Cru Foie Gras with roasted brown bread” (CHF 24.00) I must admit that I was only taken to another level by the size of the portion. The foie gras was okay in taste but it did not come close to what I had enjoyed lately at Schloss Schauenstein (being aware that it is not fair to compare a neighbour hood restaurant with a 3-Michelin-starred restaurant). However, it was not of bad quality but somehow just a disappointment.

Being a meat lover, I decided to go for a dish which offered – in my view – an interesting combination: “Roastbeef and beef tatar (Asian style with focaccia)” (CHF 38.00). So, this was really not what I had expected. I mean, the portion was tiny, and compared what you usually pay across Zurich for beef tatar and / or roastbeef this is quite a rip-off. In addition to that, the taste was also not really what I call overwhelming.

With regards to the beverages, the prices are at least fair (double espresso, CHF 6.50; a glass of Pinot Grigio CHF 11.00, a glass of Ojo de Agua, Cuvée, CHF 10.50). I am not entirely sure what to think about the service – the waitress was very friendly, very professional but she had forgotten to bring the white wine and water and only remembered that she had forgotten this once she had taken the order for the dinner.

What is really great about the place though is the decoration – the place is a bit noisy so holding a private conversation becomes a bit challenging as the background noise is quite intense. But it compensates the lack of privacy due to noise (you have to speak up to be able to communicate together) with its decoration. The place is great. High ceiling, intense decoration – loved it!

Once you are done eating and ready to get the bill (where you also have to be a bit patient) you are served a couple of friandises which were actually quite tasty.

To sum it up, I am a bit torn what to think about the Restaurant Razzia. On one hand, the place is great, lovely, intense. On the other hand, the food is good but more average – and it is quite expensive for being just average. However, I think I’ll give it another try maybe going for more “regular” dishes than foie gras, beef tatar, and roastbeef.
