1. September 2014: Restaurant @Hotel Eichenhof

What I experienced at the Restaurant at the Hotel Eichenhof this time was definitely an improvement – the “poultry cream soup” was not served with a large piece of whipped cream and was actually quite good.

The same applied to the tomato cream soup which was served the same evening – rather simple but definitely better than what I have had in the past.

As a main course for lunch, a “grilled tilapia with white wine sauce, vegetables stripes and herb potatoes” was served. The dish was probably one of the best dishes I have had at the Hotel Eichenhof – so I started looking positively towards the upcoming dishes.

In the evening, the steak which was served was actually not bad but the “mustard potato crust” which it was covered in was somehow too taste intense and did not fit the meat. A pity, as the meat quality was okay.

The potatoes were actually quite good – but it was definitely way too much given that the rest of the menu was already rather heavy.

The first two menus (lunch and dinner) were actually quite tasty. For lunch a “melon pineapple salad” with a scoop of icecream was served which was refreshing and rather light.

For dinner, plum compote with walnut icecream was served which was also rather light and tasty. I was already in a positive mood – but what was served on the last day for lunch for dessert (unfortunately no pictures) was a bowl of joghurt and fruit salad mixed together which was definitely not enjoyable.

Overall, I must admit, the food at the Hotel Eichenhof has improved since I have been here last time. The dishes became a bit lighter which definitely improves their quality. The portions are still rather big and the heaviness sometimes still sneaks in the preparation – but they are on the right track, still some miles to go, but on the right track.

The place itself is simple, nice, the dining room actually quite atmospheric, especially in the evening. And what is maybe not entirely optimal food-wise is compensated by the dedication and quality of the service of the owners. They are friendly, remember your name, and provide you with whatever you request within a few minutes only.
