6. September 2014: IBO Restaurant

| October 17, 2014 | 0 Comments

The previous night I had passed by the IBO Restaurant and as it looked somehow appealing and is located very next to the sea shore I decided to give it a try.

As a starter I had “Fried shrimps in filo pastry with lemon mayonnaise and parsely gremolata – taste of Mozambique” (EUR 12.00) which were incredibly tasty. The shrimp was perfectly grilled (although a tiny bit too dry for my taste) and the lemon mayonnaise with the parsley gremolata really made it a great dish.

As a second starter I had a “mango crab salad” (EUR 10.00) which was as good. The mango was fresh, its taste very intense and in combination with the crab meat, it was luscious.

As a main course, I went for “sautéed fresh scallops with vegetables” (EUR 24.00) and while I’m usually feeling like I have had enough scallops rather quickly, this feeling did not emerge during the whole course this time as the scallops were very smooth and tender. Additionally, the vegetables and the potato mash somehow managed to enrich the whole dish taste-wise making it a great dish.

Food-wise, I already liked the place from the beginning on as right away once you had taken your seat you were brought fresh bread plus an olive spread, some kind of hummus plus olive oil and aceto balsamico (included in the cover charge of EUR 3.00).

But the place is also nice because it is located right next to the sea shore providing you with an even stronger feeling of vacation. What does not provide you with a strong feeling of vacation is the service. The waiters are only limitedly attentive, they leave the impression that they do not want to serve you. Maybe it is because we were the youngest guests, maybe because of something else, but it was definitely unpleasant.

With regards to the prices, the place is quite fine – for the dishes I consider the prices very fair given the quality of what is served. The same actually applies for the beverages, as a glass of “VB Quinta Saes” accounted for EUR 6.00, a 0,75L bottle of water for EUR 4.00, and a double espresso for EUR 2.00.

Overall, the IBO Restaurant is a great place to enjoy some typical, local dishes with an African touch. From a pure food perspective I would absolutely come again. From a service perspective there is no way I will enter this place again. The lack of interest towards the customer is astonishing!
