16. September 2014: Restaurant EigelStein
After being the second day in Germany again, I figured I should have something really German so I went for the “Kölsche Tapas” (onion mett, brewery praline, black pudding, gouda with bread, pickles, onions) (EUR 9.95) which were a heavy and hefty start. While you get a nice overview of what the kitchen has to offer, I must admit that the quality is only limitedly persuading.
As a main course I went for the “300gr Rumpsteak with French Fries” (EUR 24.95) and I must say, I was disappointed. The meat had a huge junk of fat which was definitely not edible, the French fries were dry but at least the vegetables were okay. The waitress on the other hand did a great job keeping up with a table of 15 people – even when we decided to move tables it was not a problem and possible right away.
The prices are okay – even for the quality of the food – and the same applies to the beverages (fresh mint tea, EUR 2.80; 0,5L Tempranillo, EUR 12.50). Overall, it is not really a place where I would go again as the atmosphere is only limitedly appealing as well.
