20. September 2014: Restaurant Maroush Beauchamp Place

| November 16, 2014 | 0 Comments

It is not exactly easy to find a place in London which serves food after 1am – but we managed to and landed at the Restaurant Maroush Beauchamp Place which serves Lebanese food until 5am. Being hungry and not having eaten anything it was the perfect place to dig in. The “hommos (chickpea purée with sesame paste (tahine) and lemon juice)” (GBP 5.50) was rich and aromatic.

The “Moutabal Baba Ghanouj (grilled aubergine purée mixed with sesame paste (tahine), and lemon juice)” (GBP 5.75) was smooth and a great combination with the parsley and the pomegranade. In both cases, it is a bit much for two people, especially if you enjoy more than just these two dishes.

The “tabbouleh (parsley salad with tomato, fresh mint, onion, cracked wheat, lemon juice and an olive oil dressing)” (GBP 5.75) was fresh and aromatic but the parsley part was really overwhelming making it nearly impossible to taste the onion and the tomatoes.

The “Labneh (strained yoghurt served with olive oil and dried thyme)” (GBP 5.50) was somehow not really to my liking as it had too much of a sour taste which reminded me of lemon but it was overwhelming. While not bad it was definitely my least favourite dish of the night, respectively early morning.

The “lisanat (cocked lamb tongues served with a lemon juice and an olive oil dressing)” (GBP 6.00) was something delicious. I had never had lamb tongues before but I must admit that they were astonishingly good – the meat was very tender, not nervy at all (as I had somehow expected), the way it was prepared was rich but in all fairness the lemon taste was a tiny bit too much – application of less lemon would have increased the quality of the dish.

Obviously, with all the cream like dishes it was important to have something with which you were able to pick up the food – and the pita bread just was perfect for that. It was fresh and tasty.

When you order the bill – which is quite a cumbersome task at 3am as the waitress does not really pay any attention at all and you basically have to yell to make her aware that you maybe would like something – you also get some Lebanese sweets which are fine (at least the one I tried).

The place itself is not worth mentioning as it is pretty simple and not too appealing but I must admit that the fact that they are open until 5am every day already compensates for that. The service is friendly but it is really unattentive making you wait quite some time in order to be able to order something in addition or even to get the bill. The dishes are overall fine and the prices are extremely fair – which also applies to water (e.g. 0,75L sparkling account for GBP 3.50). So, if you are hungry in London after 1am, this is the perfect place to go.
