2. October 2014: Restaurant Weinstube Alter Torkel

| December 2, 2014 | 0 Comments

The dinner at the Restaurant Weinstube Alter Torkel is part of our annual military training – and as always it was a great experience. The “Torkel plate” (CHF 25.50 per person; plate displayed is for three people) plus the “meat aspic” (CHF 14.80) are a great meaty start into the evening. The selection is rather large and the meat is good. The Riesling (CHF 51.00) is a great, light match to the meat plate.

As a starter I went for the “Ramatti tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella, rocket salad, basil oil and white balsamico” (CHF 17.80). The tomatoes were not yet entirely ripe but the combination of the buffalo mozzarella together with the basil oil and the white balsamico was a very tasty one.

As a main course I had the “pumpkin risotto with venision cubes on a blue burgundy sauce” (CHF 42.80). The risotto is cooked to perfection and very appealing in taste as you can still taste the little pumpkin pieces in the risotto. The venison is very aromatic and, therefore, also very tasty. The portion is even astonishingly large which I did not expect. The “Barrique Mattmann” (CHF 69.00) fits perfectly well to the risotto and the venison making it a very sound and round dish.

The location is absolutely great – it is – as the name already implies – a former location where the grapes have been pressed to create wine. The place is kind of old-ish but incredibly appealing. Especially if you get to sit on the wooden top floor and you can look down on the other guests it is absolutely great. The service is very dedicated, friendly and does a great job – however, you have to re-fill your glasses quite often yourself as she did not show up often enough to make sure that your glass is full continuously. With regards to the prices for the dishes – absolutely fine, and the same applies for the beverages (i.e. double espresso, CHF 5.60).

All in all, like in my previous experiences, I can still absolutely recommend to dine at the Restaurant Weinstube Alter Torkel – reservation highly recommended!
