11. October 2014: Restaurant Le Pass’port
The port of Nice is nice (haha, what a great sentence!). But what makes it even nicer are the little restaurants where only the locals go. More or less by coincidence we walked into one and soon realized that we are the only tourists as everybody in the restaurant knew each other. In order to make sure to have something which the locals would eat, we went for the “daily plate” which was “Calamari à la planche” (EUR 16.00). The calamari were fresh, aromatic, and although it was quite a portion you were not getting sick of it as it was really tasty.
The place is absolutely simple consisting of various plastic charis and tables in different colours not really fitting together but as it is at the port and the place is full of locals it is still very atmospheric. The waiter is not too attentive but rather quick and friendly and the prices are absolutely fine (Coke Zero, EUR 2.70; Double Espresso, EUR 3.00; and San Pellegrino, 0,5L, EUR 5.00). Overall, although incredibly simple, I can recommend the Le Pass’port as it is a truly local French place – lovely, simple, but honest food!
