13. October 2014: Restaurant Krone
The “pumpkin cream soup with roasted pumpkin seeds” which was part of the menu was aromatic and rich and had a nice thick consistency – perfect start for a rather cold day.
The “grilled king prawns on a creamy basil risotto with bacon and lemon” (CHF 26.00) were great – the prawns were still a tiny bit juicy, the basil foam and risotto added the necessary hint of special and the grilled bacon supported the dish with a dash of salitness (but it was extra crispy so you needed good teeth).
Besides everything, there was bread and butter which was fine – regular good Swiss bread and creamy butter. The service is absolutely good – the personnel is friendly and does a good job always there when you need them, or at least most of the time. When we wanted to order the bill there seemed to be a sudden disappearance of all staff – luckily only for a couple of minutes which made it absolutely bearable.
With regards to the location itself the place is still absolutely cozy – the wooden interior design makes you feel like you are entering a tiny Swiss chalet in the mountains – and this in Swizterland’s largest city. The atmosphere is outstanding – cozy, warm, friendly.
Overall, I can recommend the Restaurant Krone for lunch – the food is very good, the service does a good job, the atmosphere is great and the prices are absolutely reasonable for Zurich.
