7. December 2014: Restaurant Baccara

| January 28, 2015 | 0 Comments

I was expecting absolutely nothing when the waitress talked about the “seasonal house drink” – especially because I am not a big fan of champagne. However, the “champagne with an orange ginger bread espuma” (CHF 13.00) was surprisingly good; mostly due to the espuma though and not so much because of the champagne.

The “lamb’s lettuce salad from Weggis with smoked strips of Duck breast, and buffalo feta from Marbach” was the first course of the menu (CHF 68.00). The salad was nice as it containted quite a few

The “duet of braised veal cheek and veal tenderloin with bacon and pearl onions, red cabbage” was served with …

… “porcini mushroom noodles”. The veal cheek and the veal tenderloin were of good quality, smooth and rich. The noodles though were not really that great as they lacked quite a bit of porcini for the fact that they were porcini noodles.

Finally, the “cheese from “Thurgau” with fig mustard” was definitely tasty but for a cheese plate I somehow expected more than just one type of cheese. However, at least it was good cheese. Overall, the dishes are good without a doubt, however, nothing which blows your mind.

The place itself is nice, especially as you get to see Lake Lucerne (when it is not yet entirely dark) and the interior is in the best of taste. With regards to the service one can only complain about one thing: If you want your glass of water refilled, then you have to be patient as it takes quite some time until they come to refill your glass.

The start of the evening is nice though as you get a selection of different breads (thyme, tomato, malt) with cranberries, butter, tsatsiki, and pumpkin sweet and sour dip. This easily helps you to cope with the strong feeling of hunger in the first minutes after you’ve placed your order – and it is quite tasty.

The prices are very fair – for the dishes as well as the beverages (0,75L water, CHF 9.50; 0,5L water, CHF 6.80; double espresso, CHF 6.50; 1DL Cum Laude 2010, CHF 9.00). And as the Restaurant is closed during the upcoming months, this information is brought to you nicely with a little chocolate lego block.

All in all, the Restaurant Baccara is a nice place as the interior is nice, the view is great, the service is friendly (but has room for improvement), the dishes are good and the prices are fair. During the summer in the evening when you get to see Lake Lucerne for a bit longer than in December, I consider it definitely recommendable!
