14. December 2014: Restaurant Bar Estrela
Although the Bar Estrela is a typical Portuguese restaurant, I must admit that I have had better cod before. The “sun dried cod grilled with roast potatoes in skins” (GBP 15.00) was pretty average. The fish was too dry for my personal taste (despite it being sun dried) and just lacked aroma. The vegetables were a bit overcooked and the potatoes were regular and fine.
The “Vinho Verde” (0,75L, GBP 16.00) was a great match to the dish though. However, the service is really not up to the task. We had to wait approximately 50 minutes before we finally got our beverages, and another 50 minutes before the first dishes arrived. I get that you are maybe not that many people working there but frankly, 50 minutes before you get your first beverage is way too long! The place is also only limitedly atmospheric. To sum it up, not a place I would go again, below-average food, relatively high prices for that, and last but not least superslow service.
