15. December 2014: Restaurant Blue Boar

| February 8, 2015 | 0 Comments

Great place for a quick business lunch with good quality food: Restaurant Blue Boar. I started with “home smoked cornish mackerel, apple, celeriac, baby beets (ashwood smoked)” (GBP 9.00) which is prepared in the “Bradley Smoker” (the smoker is our toy, we use a variety of different chips to bring delicate smoke and flavour to our dishes. Some stay longer, some stay no time at all, some need strong flavour and some very littlle. In the end, it’s all about showcasing the amazing quality of the procedure). The mackerel was great in combination with the pepper corns and the sweetness of the apples. However, it had a slight fishy taste one has to like.

As a main course I went for the “beef fillet, 220gr, with Sauce Béarnaise” (GBP 28.00) prepared on the “Josper Grill” (this is natural cooking! A charcoal fired oven which reaches temperatures in excess of 500° Celsius adds the most amazing char to the meat, sealing all the flavour to be succulent and juicy. We add wood chips that kiss the meat during grilling, adding just a hint of flavour that finishes off the perfect steak). The meat is aromatic and delicate having its rich own meat taste.

As a side dish with the meat I went for the “hand cut triple cooked chips” (GBP 4.00) which were – well, chips. Nothing outstanding here but at least the Sauce Béarnaise was quite good.

The “friandises” which are brought to your table in the end are also quite good – simple but good. The prices for the beverages (i.e. double espresso for GBP 4.25; sparkling water for GBP 5.00) are okay but definitely proud prices.

The place is absolutely stylish and lovely – especially with its spaciousness which gives you some privacy and distance to other tables. The service is also close to flawless. The waitresses are friendly, attentive, and bring your dishes and orders within a reasonable amount of time to your table.

Even when you sit down and get fresh warm bread with butter you already start feeling like you really want to have lunch here. And frankly speaking, yeah, you really do.

All in all, I can absolutely recommend the Restaurant Blue Boar for lunch – great food, even better atmosphere, good service, and fair prices for what you get. Booking is highly recommended though – even for lunch!
