When I was at the Restaurant Trais Portas three days ago, I saw something on the menu which immediately caught my eye: the “Tomahawk Steak” (CHF 11.00 per 100gr). As you have to pre-order the steak it was not possible to try it that evening. However, pre-order successfully executed, I got to try the Tomahawk Steak this time. Before it is prepared for you, you get to have a look at the beauties.

The “Tomahawk steak” is then prepared on a plate for you with some vegetables. The meat was incredibly juicy, tender, and had a marvelous aroma. Definitely something worth trying. The vegetables which came with it were as delicious as the meat.

What is great about the concept of the tomahawk steak is that you get to pick a couple of sides without an extra price. I went for the “salad” which was fresh and had a great dressing.

As well as the “corn talers” – which are somehow made of corn mixed together with egg and then put in a pan. So, somehow like a crêpe but on the salty side and very aromatic. I was surprised by the taste of the corn taler – mouth-watering. Especially with …

… the sauces and the herb butter, the whole thing was served with. Again we had cocktail, salsa verde and curd dip.

As two tomahawk steaks make for two rounds of meat, you get a second plate of meat. While the meat was still absolutely delicious, it was a bit less breath-taking than the first round. However, again, perfectly cooked medium-rare as requested.

To accompany the meat perfectly, a “ChâteauCitran, Haute-Medoc, Cru bourgeois, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, 2009” (CHF 70.00) was served. Again, the service was flawless given that there are only two people and the atmosphere is as great as it was three days ago. I had the chance to talk to Ralf again with regards to the burger buns (see here) and he stated that he already took action and is in the process of adjusting the buns. That’s what I call “taking customer feedback serious”! Thumbs up!

The Trais Portas is definitely worth coming, for the pork spare ribs as well as for the tomahawk steak! If you want to get the same meat quality for home, buy with Zanetti in Sent (his butcher of choice).
