13. February 2015: Restaurant Sopas de Mamá y Postres de la Abuela

| April 13, 2015 | 0 Comments

The last meal in Colombia should be one to indulge in all the delicacies this country has to offer so I went for a variety of dishes, starting with “morcilla con papa criolla (dos provocativas morcillas servidas con papa criolla y ají casero)” (10’500 COP) and “empanadas de la abuela (¡combínalas a tu gusto!)” where you were free to pick which ones you wanted and obviously wanted both types, “carne con nuestro delicioso ají casero” and “queso con salsa de piña” (5’300 for 2 empanadas). The morcilla was great in taste and consistency, the empanadas, especially the ones stuffed with cheese were also quite delicious.

Next in line was the “cerdo” which looked absolutely appealing but was unfortunately quite a disappointment as it was mainly fat and skin and not really any meat. The guacamole sauce which was served with it was very tasty though.

A very typical dish from Bogotá, I was told, is the “Ajiaco Santafereño (¡La legendaria receta Bogotana!), pollo desmenuzado, variedad de papas (pastusa, saberna y criolla), mazorca tierna y guascas. Acompañado de arroz blanco, tajada de aguacate, crema de leche y alcaparras), pequeño” (11’900 COP). And while at first I thought something soup-like won’t be satisfying and I would definitely still be hungry after having this, I was positively surprised as I was not still hungry after this very rich and tasty dish.

The prices are incredibly reasonable for what you get – which is not only true for the dishes but also for the beverages, e.g. the “Jugo de curuba en agua” accounts for 4’700 COP and is very aromatic. The place itself is not really that appealing but quite okay for the fact that it is located in a shopping mall. The service is very friendly and does generally a good job – but you have to be patient in the beginning before you can place your order. Overall, definitely a place which is pretty perfect for a stop while shopping in the mall.
