16. – 17. February 2015: Restaurant Gabriel’s @ Hotel Kaiserhof
The “cream soup with croûtons” was a tasty starter for lunch …
… but the main course, “salmon with market vegetables and rice” was actually better. The salmon was still a bit light and not fully cooked (which I like) making it a sound dish.
The dessert looked appealing and was overall also quite good.
Dinner time started with a broth which was nothing special really but at least was a warm start into the evening …
… but the meat with spaetzle was definitely the richer experience than the broth.
And last but not least, the dessert really was of an interesting consistency and structure making it an interesting pre-final course.
Obviously as the evening went on and on, one decided to enjoy a plate of cheese together which was served with nuts, grapes, honey and chutney …
… and offered a nice selection of various cheeses. Definitely something I can recommend to order when you like cheese and are in a larger group.
As I had spent quite some time in the hotel due to the fact that there was a seminar taking place in the bespoken location, I also had the pleasure to try breakfast there and I must say it is an excellent place to start the day.
The selection of dishes ranges from various jams, cold cuts, salmon, cheeses, creams, …
… to more cheeses, fresh vegetables, …
… and more fresh vegetables …
… to a nice selection of various breads …
… cereals, yoghurts, …
… as well as fruit juices and milk.
The same day, there was a “broccoli soup with almond shavings” for lunch which was quite rich in taste.
The chicken with bulgur and vegetables lacked a bit in intensity but was at least looking quite appealing. The salmon the day before was definitely better though.
And last but not least, the dessert served this lunch was actually quite good – despite of half of it being made from chocolate which is definitely not my preferred kind of sweet.
The restaurant is quite atmospheric and you can easily spend a couple of hours there while enjoying your dishes and wines. The staff is on average very friendly and helpful and also puts up with a decent extension of business hours till 2am without complaining or the like. Overall, the Restaurant Gabriel’s in the Hotel Kaiserhof is definitely a place you can eat at. Food is decent, atmosphere is nice, service is on average very good.
