27. February 2015: Restaurant Toshi
The Restaurant Toshi is apparently ranked among the best restaurants in Munich and I must admit that the sushi which is served there does qualify for this assessment. As an amuse bouche, “black sea weed” was served which was very distinct in its taste but interesting from a flavour-perspective.
As a starter I went for the “Blue Fin Tuna Carpaccio with Wasabi Sauce” (EUR 19.50) which was fine but I must also admit that I have had better before. Especially for almost 20 EUR for a starter – which is quite a lot even for Munich standards – I did expect a bit more.
In order to be able to try the real “Toshi Experience” I went for the dish called “Toshi” (10 sushi and one roll for EUR 45.00) and even went for the “Tokusen upgrade” (+ EUR 10.00) which is basically an upgrade to a better quality of the fish. The sushi was absolutely tasty, no question. But again, for EUR 55.00 I have had better sushi experiences. To be completely transparent, the complaining happens on a very high level.
The place is lovely like a typical small sushi restaurant like I imagine it to be in Japan with a European touch which makes it absolutely comfortable and appealing. The service is incredibly friendly and mostly coordinated – just with regards to taking up the order, there is some streamlining to be done. The prices are overall pretty steep – which is not only true with regards ot the dishes but also with regards to the beverages (e.g. Fiordilino, 0,75L, EUR 7.00). However, it is worth going to Toshi and give it a try. Booking is absolutely adviced though as the place was pretty full even at 9pm.
