6. March 2015: Restaurant Beast

| May 6, 2015 | 0 Comments

The name says it all – I have heard a lot about the restaurant Beast and definitely had to try it this time when I was in London. The restaurant is basically famous for two things: beef steaks and Norwegian king crabs. But one thing after the next – the menu starts with a small selection of antipasti (pickled onions, olives, parmesan, and last but not least, pickled mushrooms).

If you go for the “Beast menu” (GBP 75.00) alone, you definitely have more than enough food but if you are two people it pays off to pay the “upgrade” for GBP 20.00 as then you have enough for two. The “Norwegian King Crab” does not only look delicious when it is served but it also tastes great – altough you have to kind of get used to open it first.

Funny enough, the waiter asked if we wanted to see the kitchen and we were lucky enough to be explained the whole procedure by the head chef which was very lovely.

But before you deal with the crab on your plate you can have a look at them in the water tank …

… and if you feel like it, you can also hold one and take pictures with it. However, the Norwegian King Crab is very aromatic and taste-intense and nicely juicy.

The “Nebraskan Steak” (approx. 600gr) was a bit of a disappointment. I mean, the meat is really good and it looks superdelicious when you see it on your plate but frankly speaking it just somehow did not meet my expectations with regards to flavour. Perfectly grilled medium-rare, nothing to complain there but somehow the juicy meat flavours are somehow missing a bit.

What is for sure though is that the meat is hanging around quite some time to make sure the meat is ready to be consumed but it still lacks a bit of aroma.

Together with all the meat and seafood which is served, a variety of sauces and hot and cold sides is served. It is definitely a setup so you can indulge in food but for my personal gusto it was even a bit too much food – especially the sides.

Unfortunately, I can’t recall what the dessert was but it was a good finish to a great dinner. The food is overall good but what is even better is the “experience” behind it – was something truly unique I have not tried before.

The prices are a bit on the steeper side but still very okay for what you get which also applies to the beverages (e.g. Voss sparkling water, GBP 5.00; a Moscow Mule, GBP 14.00; and a bottle of Poderi dal Nespoli, Sangiovese, GBP 40.00).

The place is absolutely atmospheric and great to enjoy by even just sitting there. The restaurant is full of large tables and you are seated at the tables besides each other as they are to large to sit opposite each other. With regards to the service, I must say it was absolutely dedicated and generally they do a great job and are super friendly. Our waitress, Emily, really did a great job. But there is something she should learn – when the people you’re serving are obviously in an intense conversation or laughing, you do not interrupt them – or at least you wait until the sentence is finished. One time, fine, two times, okay, maybe, three times – super annoying!

However, I can absolutely recommend you to dine at this restaurant as it is a unique experience with regards to the place, the atmosphere, the Norwegian King Crab and the Nebraskan Steak! Early booking an absolute necessity!
