10. March 2015: Restaurant Kaoru

| May 12, 2015 | 0 Comments

So, my first time ever to Mannheim was not really mind-blowing. The “Edamame” (EUR 4.00) was okay but pretty regular. But the whole thing started pretty unpleasant. So we arrived around 8:30pm when the place was half empty. There was a table close to the window with a view, actually there were two. I asked to have one of those. The answer of the waitress was: No sorry, we already told all the other that there is a reservation, so you can’t sit there because it would be unfair. Obviously the tables remained empty until we left the restaurant 90 minutes later.

Once we have been able to place our order, which was quite difficult as the waitress was really, really not up to the task, it was served rather swiftly. I went for the “Gyu Tataki (marinated beef, Japanese style)” (EUR 6.00) which was absolutely average.

As a side there, I got some “coleslaw salad” which was okay in taste but unnecessary.

In order to be able to try the best sushi in Mannheim, I decided to go for their typical dish, the “Kaoru Favourite Set (Sake- and Kappa Hoso-Maki (3 pieces each), California Ura-Maki (4 pieces), Ebiten, Sake and Exotic Futo-Maki (3 pieces each)” (EUR 24.00). Frankly, the sushi was good but I have had so much better, so it was a bit of a disappointment.

To sum it up, the food is okay but the service was super poor, the prices are reasonable but probably even expensive for Mannheim, and last but not least, the atmosphere of the place is only not really the best one. Frankly, I would not recommend you to go there.
