19. March 2015: Restaurant Lux – Barkultur und Grillkunst

| May 16, 2015 | 0 Comments

This time when I was in Münster I figured that there are actually good restaurants. Not only with yesterday’s Nikos but also today with the Restaurant Lux. The dinner started with a small “bell pepper soup” as an amuse bouche. The soup was aromatic and a nice change to the usually cold amuse bouches one gets served.

I went for the “beef tatar (70gr) from Allgäu with sour cream, parmesan shavings” (EUR 16.00) prepared “Asian style with roasted sesame, chili, lemongrass, ginger shavings, fresh coriander” which was a bit unusual as the meat itself had quite some vegetables elements in it – however, it was absolutely good.

As a main course, I had a “free-range beef again from Allgäu, Gentleman’s Cut (300gr)” (EUR 39.00). The meat was – as requested – perfectly medium rare. However, despite the quality of the meat which was good it somehow lacked a bit in taste. The Sauce Béarnaise (EUR 3.00) was a good addition to the course making the meat definitely better.

As a side dish, I went for the “honey beans with almond shavings” (EUR 3.00) which was simple but surprisingly tasty. Especially the combination of the sweetness of the honey together with the green taste of the beans was lovely.

To start, we were served “bread and spread”. The place is very atmospheric as it is light-flooded and spacious making it a modern and appealing restaurant.

However, with regards to the service, there is some room for improvement. The waiter was very unattentive in the beginning and it took him incredibly long to serve the water. After that though, the service improved drastically together with the friendliness of the waiter. Overall, the Restaurant Lux belongs to the best restaurants I have tried in Münster so far. The atmosphere is great, the dishes are good although not outstanding, the prices are fair although a bit steep for Münster, and last but not least, the service does generally a good job (after its initial unfriendliness).
