21. March 2015: Restaurant Ampelmann

| May 18, 2015 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Ampelmann is perfect if it is raining outside as the restaurant is located in walking distance of the “Hackersche Höfe”. The place is rather simple inside but still very comfortable with large and strong wooden tables providing a feeling of “traditional” right away. The “beef carpaccio with parmesan shavings, rocket salad, and small mushrooms” (EUR 12.90) was rather average though. The meat was definitely fresh from the freezer – unfortunately not fully defrosted.

The “Chinese green tea” (EUR 4.20) on the other hand was definitely better as it was fresh and aromatic. The place is atmospheric but the service definitely has some flaws. They are incredibly unattentive and somehow only limitedly friendly. I donÄt know if this is a “Berlin thing” but it is definitely not how you imagine good service to be.

Overall, the Restaurant Ampelman is the perfect place to hide from the rain on a rainy afternoon and wait till it’s over. Else, it is not really a place I would go. However, the prices are at least very fair (i.e. 0,2L of Montepulciano d’Abbruzzo, 2010 for EUR 4.50) but there is improvement possible on the service side possible.
