21. March 2015: Restaurant Muret La Barba
The “Tagliere di affettati misti, formaggi e verdure” (mixed Italian cold cuts, cheeses and pickled vegetables) (EUR 17.00) is a nice start into the evening. The food is good and the selection is decent.
The “tagliolini with bianchetto truffles (“tagliolini al tartufo bianchetto”)” (EUR 14.50) were fine. The noodles were perfectly al dente, the truffle shavings generously applied without being overwhelming and the parmesan cheese decently spread. However, the truffle was lacking a bit in aroma.
You get to pick the bottles directly from the shelves and I must admit that the selection of wines is pretty decent. I had a glass of “Barbera d’A.B.S.” (1dl, EUR 5.00) to start and went on with a bottle of “Amarone” (EUR 50.00, thereof, EUR 10.50 corkage fee) and “Archimede” (EUR 43.30, thereof, EUR 10.50 corkage fee). With regards to the second wine I only realized later that they had put the wrong one on the bill which was a bit more expensive than the one consumed. Not really too nice an experience but on the other hand I must admit that the service was incredibly friendly and helpful and even offered a grappa on the house in the end. The place is run by Italians and they transmit the Italian dolce vita definitely to the customers. This is also true for the atmosphere – typical Italian style interior, modern, with a lot of light wood, lovely! The more you are ready to let yourself go, the more you will be able to enjoy the evening. I can absolutely recommend Muret La Barba but booking a table in advance is an absolute must – make sure though you get a table and do not end up sitting at the bar. The prices are fair though too (e.g. 1 L water, EUR 5.80; double espresso, EUR 2.70).
