22. March 2015: Restaurant Bürgli
A small cube of “bulgur with beetroot foam” was served as an amuse bouche from the kitchen. The dish was light and tickled your taste buds so your mouth was ready for the evening.
As a starter I went for the “marinated asparagus salad with honey and almond splitters with delicious graved salmon prepared Bürgli style” (CHF 19.50). The salmon was aromatic and the sweetness of the honey added a nice special taste to the dish.
As a main course I went for “beef filet with bell pepper sauce and asparagus” (CHF 54.00). The meat was definitely tender and had its own good meat taste. The sauce was surprisingly interesting as I had not expected much from a bell pepper sauce.
Overall, the dishes are prepared in a sound way and with high quality – unfortunately though, as good as it is, it doesn’t blow away your taste buds. It is a high quality dish for a fair price but nothing surprising. Sound and good kitchen. The place itself is lovely and if you are either well-known by the owners or manage to book early enough you might end up with a nice table right by the window where you get to have a look onto Lake Zurich.
The prices are fair for what you get – which is also true for the beverages (i.e. 1dl Petite Arvine, CHF 8.00; 0,5L water, CHF 6.50; and 1dl Protos Ribera del Duero, CHF 7.90; double espresso, CHF 6.50). The service is friendly and considered but could have been more attentive as my water glass was empty quite often.
Overall, I can still recommend the Restaurant Bürgli – good place for good food for fair prices in a nice atmosphere. Worth the little ride from central Zurich up Lake Zurich.
