23. March 2015: Restaurant Florhof

As an amouse bouche the kitchen offered a “pea soup” which was definitely something quite uncommon as a starter but also something surprisingly nice as it was a warm amuse bouche which is not too common.

I went for the “three course menu” (CHF 80.00) to get a good taste of the quality of the kitchen in the restaurant Florhof. As a starter I had the “bell pepper flan with bell pepper chips, parma ham, asparagus, and bell pepper ice cream with black salt”. The dish looked absolutely promising and was also good in taste. Especially the bell pepper ice cream with black salt was something quite unique I haven’t tried yet and, therefore, nicely surprising.

The next course were “pea tortellini with basil, lemon, radish, sugar pea and croûtons”. While the dish itself was actually rich in flavour it was a bit disappoiting that the “peas” showed up already again given they were already served as an amuse bouche soup.

The main course consisted of “crispy grilled chicken breast, kohlrabi, forest mushrooms, onion purree, sautéed lamb’s lettuce and wild garlic foam”. While the chicken breast was good and had a nice consistency the onion purree and the sautéed lamb’s lettuce really made the dish good. I am always a bit sceptical with regards to warm salad but I must admit that it was actually quite good in this particular case.

After the menu, a small selection of “nougat crocant and passion fruit gelee” was served to sweeten up the end of the dinner. The place is very lovely from its interior and the decoration creates a cozy atmosphere making you feel like you are at home.

The service is dedicated, very friendly, and does a good job. They are attentive and there when you need them. Overall, the Restaurant Florhof is definitely not a place you just walk in as it is located a bit outside of the actual city centre (close to the art museum) but it is worth walking up the hill a tiny bit to eat here. To be fair though, don’t expect your taste buds to dance lambada due to joy but the food is definitely good!
