30. March 2015: Restaurant Köchlistube
If you are looking for real traditional Swiss food, you should definitely pay the Restaurant Köchlistube a visit. As a starter I went for the “cervelat salad with onions, pickles and cheese on leaf salad” (CHF 15.00 + CHF 2.00 extra for the cheese). I had asked for a small portion as I wanted a main course after the salad – but somehow they messed it up and I got a pretty large portion as a starter. The salad itself was good – traditional Swiss cervelat salad.
The “pork Cordon Bleu with French fries and vegetables” would account for CHF 28.50, but if you want the “veal version” you have to pay an extra CHF 5.00 (so a total of CHF 33.50). The Cordon Bleu is stuffed quite generously with cheese and ham. The French fries are nothing special but the Cordon Bleu compensates for that.
The restaurant is a bit dark but somehow very atmospheric. It feels like you are going to your neighbourhood restaurant where all the guys who live in the houses around usually come for a beer in the evening. But it does not have a run-down, shabby atmosphere but somehow a very inviting one. The service is friendly and nice and does a good job but you can see that it is a family-run restaurant (or at least it feels like) as we are far from professional service level – then again, that is not what you come here for but for the heavy, hearty, traditional Swiss food – and it is worth coming for that!
