24. April 2015: Restaurant Lorry
My first impression of Norwegian cuisine after a solid 15 years was a mixed one. The restaurant had been recommended to me by the hotel and I thought I should give it a shot. The “reindeerburgers with lingonberries and a creamy gamesauce” (198 NOK) were not really burgers as I had expected them but more patties which was actually fine. The meat was a bit disappointing from a taste point of view, however, the lingonberries with the gamesauce were actually quite tasty.
The place is quite atmospheric – more a pub than a restaurant (although it looks a bit different here on the picture) but overall it is a fine place to eat something quick. The prices for beer are rather steep with 84 NOK for 0,5L of “Ringnes” (local beer). The service is very friendly but you have to be a bit patient as apparently for some of them it is not the first priority to serve the customer but rather to sit together in a corner and check their cell phones.
Overall, the restaurant Lorry is quite okay – you get local food, or at least what they sell as local food, the atmosphere is nice, the service does a good job and last but not least the prices are steep but fair for Norwegian standards.
