30. April 2015: Restaurant THE EAST
In these moments I really wonder how restaurants in Germany can survive – for a solid EUR 9.95 you get to help yourself at the lunch buffet of THE EAST. And, honestly, for EUR 9.95 I would not really expect anything but what you get to pick from is actually quite good. The selection ranges from vegetables for salad …
… to vegetarian sushi …
… and some more of it …
… as well as fried vegetables …
… various sauces you need when you prepare your own compilation of ingredients to be grilled by the head chef …
… as well as some side dishes …
… and even more of those …
… until you finally receive your selection of ingredients from the grill. Even the meat quality is absolutely acceptable – I mean, let’s be honest it is not the best meat I have ever had but for the price it is absolutely okay! Actually, even more than okay!
However, with regards to the atmosphere there is room for improvement – the concept obviously only works if you bring in enough people but I doubt that this works during lunch time. To be fair, it got a bit crowded after some time but it was not closely as “full” as it probably should be so they’d cover all their cost. The waitresses only pick up your drinks order (fair prices, i.e. water, 0,4L, EUR 3.10 but compared to the dishes very expensive) and take away the dirty plates.
Overall, THE EAST is a good place for cheap but acceptable food for lunch which obviously helps a lot when you are starving. I can imagine, if you go here in the evening, you should book a table in advance!
