30. April 2015: Restaurant Augusta Giovanni

The “Insalata Caprese with mozzarella di buffala” (EUR 11.00) was fine. The tomatoes were not really ripe but it is also not really tomato time yet. However, the buffala was nothing special and frankly speaking I consider EUR 11.00 a bit expensive for what you get. The olive oil on the other hand was very delicious.

The “Rigatoni Gianluca” (EUR 8.50) on the other hand were exquisite. They were cooked perfectly al dente, the “Gianluca sauce” was rich in taste – definitely recommendable. The place is lovely as it is simple in its design and decoration but also authentic and you really feel like you are in an Italian trattoria (while actually being in the middle of Germany).

The service is friendly, typically Italian, some of them only speak German to a limited degree but the service is passionate in what they do and jovial. They are not super attentive at all times but they are friendly and we’ve been recommended a local wine (local, in terms of Italy) which was absolutely good (EUR 21.00). The prices – besides the salad – are also absolutely fine (also true for beverages, i.e. 1L San Pellegrino, EUR 5.50). Overall, the Restaurant Augusta Giovanni is a good Italian place for pasta – I would not go for the salad again but the pasta is definitely recommendable! The place was crammed that evening – booking in advance highly recommended!
