28. May 2015: Restaurant King’s Cave

| July 28, 2015 | 1 Comments

I have heard and read a lot about the Restaurant King’s Cave – and only positive things so far. And I must admit I can only confirm that impression. The “Black Angus Entrecôte (300gr), King au gratin with herb butter” (CHF 55.00) looks a bit megre at first – but it is very delicious meat. The quality is great, the herb butter on top makes it even better – but it is quite expensive with CHF 55.00 without any side dishes.

If you want “Pommes Allumettes” you need to chip in an additional CHF 6.00 but at least then you get as many fries as you want – and they are quite okay. To round up an evening, a selection of sorbets (CHF 1.50 per scoop) “vanilla dream, lemon & lime, passion fruit & mango” (CHF 4.50) is perfect.

While the prices are pretty steep, I must admit that this app, called EasyDining.ch, I recently discovered alleviates the “price problem” a lot! You get 50% off your bill for all dishes (not the beverages) so you end up paying CHF 55.00 for two people for the meat instead of CHF 110.00. Definitely a great deal!

The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite unique – it is a combination of a nice cellar with something like a bit too much decoration. The waitress was very friendly, helpful, and always at our table when necessary without ever been intruding. The prices for the wines are quite fair overall, i.e. a glass of “Petite Arvine” accounts for CHF 8.50, a glass of “Amarone Valpolicella” for CHF 11.00, a bottle of “Amarone Valpolicella” for CHF 72.00, a double espresso for CHF 6.00, and a 0,5L bottle of Henniez for CHF 7.50.

I can absolutely recommend you the King’s Cave – with or without the EasyDining.ch App!
