26. June 2015: Restaurant Au Vieux Bruxelles

| August 22, 2015 | 0 Comments

It is approximately 5 years ago since I have been to Brussels and funny enough, the first evening in Brussels I unknowingly ended up in a place where closely to where I’ve been 5 years ago. Belgium is – among other things – known for their “Moules & Frites” which is “mussels and fries” so I went for the typical dish, the “Moules ‘Au Vieux Bruxelles’ (lardons, chicons, crème)” (EUR 26.90). I considered the EUR 26.90 quite expensive at first but then realized that the pot which looked pretty tiny when served was actually superfull with mussels and you would definitely not leave the restaurant hungry.

The French fries which came with it were pretty disappointing though. Nothing special at all.

The dessert selection is nice because they offer small desserts, so I went for the “mini crème brûlée à la vanille de Madagascar” (EUR 3.90) which was good in taste. With regards to the place, I must admit I do not entirely understand why this place is among the top 10 places to eat at in Brussels.

I mean, the place is okay but if you sit outside (which you would definitely do given the sunny and warm weather) you have plastic tables and chairs. And if you happen to be there on a Friday night you have the pleasure to sit besides the trash bags which are taken out on the streets by the residents. Not really how you want to spend the evening. However, the place is okay, the food is fine, the prices are decent and the service is friendly and tries its best. The prices for the beverages are fine too (i.e Petilliant, 0,5L, EUR 3.80; Grimbergen Blonde (légèrement fruitée), 0,33L, EUR 3.60; or Espresso double, EUR 5.20). Overall, I must say though that I was a bit disappointed and would not really recommend you to go there.
