8. July 2015: Restaurant Luang Prabang

| September 25, 2015 | 0 Comments

Switching from Lithuanian kitchen to German kitchen the same day is pretty interesting – although it was not actually German kitchen but much more Asian food which is served in Luang Prabang. The “salad from Laos (mixed salad with minced pork, garlic, onions, eggs, crunched peanuts and coriander” (EUR 8.90) was quite okay but it is not really a starter size but much more a full meal. Unfortunately, this was not really clear when looking at the menu.

So I went for “Gaeng Curry Leang (bamboo, carrots, bell peppers, courgette, onions, lemon leaves, potatoes, lemongrass in yellow curry with coconut milk and duck)” (EUR 15.90) as a main coure. The duck was tasty and actually good qualtiy (I have experienced it quite often that due to the fact that the duck was fried the quality of the meat was inferior) but in this case it was absolutely satisfying. The curry is good and not too spicy but again it is quite a portion – a good one but a large one.

The place is rather simple and not really atmospheric but I guess you really come here for the food and not for the atmosphere. The service is friendly and dedicated. The prices are fair for the dishes as well as for the beverages (i.e. 0,75L, sparkling water, EUR 5.50; espresso, EUR 1.80). All in all, the dishes at the Luang Prabang are good – you absolutely have to book a table in advance as else you won’t stand a chance to get a table. Worth trying.
