13. July 2015: Restaurant Destino

| October 8, 2015 | 0 Comments

I found the Restaurant Destino on a list of recommendations and thought I might give it a try despite the fact that it is not offering Polish but Italian and Spanish food. Being superthirsty from strolling around the city, I went for the “lemonade ‘Destino'” (10 PLN) which was simple but superrich. And the good part was that you were able to “redo” it when you had ordered “Sparkling Water, 0,7L” (10 PLN).

As a starter I had ordered “Crostini – toasts with pastes, spicy tomato, aubergine, and parsley pesto with marinated zucchini” (12 PLN). They looked delicious but I wondered myself why in the end I did not take the time to find a place which serves Polish food. However, the crostini are a sound start for lunch.

Secondly, I went for the “pappardelle with parma ham, white wine, rucola, cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese” (26 PLN). They were surprisingly tasty – although I did not find any ham, and especially no Parma ham, on the plate. You wonder why I say “tasty”? Well, they were actually al dente – something I definitely had not expected.

In order to have a nice ending of the lunch, I decided to go for the “gingerbread ice-cream on toast with cherry coulis” (13 PLN) which sounded absolutely delicious! Now, there was a tiny little problem … they didn’t have it! Frankly, a real pity because the dishes I have tried were definitely good, no question but I must also say that they were not outstanding in any way whatsoever. This little, promised but not delivered, new combination of flavours would have saved the day. In the end, it didn’t.

All in all, the place is absolutely lovely as the atmosphere is nice, the interior design is great, the service is dedicated and very friendly. The prices are fair by all means (also double espresso, 10 PLN; Sparkling water, 0,3L, 6 PLN). However, the dishes are good but just average if you know the real thing in Italy. Still, a nice place when it comes to the atmosphere and perfect to relax after strolling through the city but do not expect miracles to happen in your mouth when you eat here.
