29. August 2015: Restaurant Obicà Brera
When I was studying in Milan, I paid the Obicà Brera a visit quite often – especially because they had great aperitivo. As it seems, that concept has changed a bit. Originally, you ordered one alcoholic drink like the “Basil Martini (limoncello Casa Barone, vodka, succo di lime, foglie di basilico)” (EUR 9.00) which was good and then …
… you were allowed to help yourself over a buffet of very tasty Italian dishes. However, nowadays you get a “small Obicà specialty platter”. The elements you find on the platter are actually tasty but it does not have to do much with the classical aperitivo concept anymore.
So in order to actually have a proper dinner I also went for the “Crostini Misti (buffalo butter and anchovies from cetara, datterini tomatoes and basil, seasonal pesto)” (EUR 4.50) which were absolutely lovely. And – astonishingly to myself – I actually liked the tomato crostini more than the anchovy crostini.
The Obicà is known for its Mozzarella die Bufala – and well, that is why I obviously also had the “Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP e Stracciatella Pugliese” (EUR 9.50) which was absolutely superb, absolutely smooth, just so lovely!
While you are waiting for your dishes to arrive, you are already served olives and chips. A nice gesture but it does not really help to make the time go by … if you are very hungry of course. However, a nice gesture.
Overall, the dishes at the Restaurant Obicà Brera are still great but what you are served does not have much to do with the classical aperitivo anymore – unfortunately. However, especially with regards to the Mozzarella di Bufala, I can still absolutely recommend the Obicà Brera.
